Review of the Bobble Water Bottle

I was very excited when I first saw the Bobble (http://www.waterbobble.com) . It's a water bobble with a built in carbon filter. Although the stainless steel water bottles are ideal in that they are incredibly durable and not made from plastic, if you're worried about chemicals in drinking water the typical stainless steel water bottles fall short. When you have kids and you're at a park in the middle of nowhere, your only choice is to fill up your water bottle with fountain water or the water from the bathroom tap. These sources are typically full of chlorine and who knows how many other chemicals. So in comes the Bobble. The carbon filter is designed to remove chlorine and other chemicals often found in tap water so it makes for a truly ideal portable water bottle. I should comment that carbon filters are not designed to remove living organisms that may be growing in lakes or streams. So here is my review.

The good...
1. The obvious good is that it contains its own filter which is attached to the sport cap.
2. It is fully recyclable and made from recycled plastic.
3. It is made from FDA approved recycled PET that is free of BPA, phthalates and PVC.
4. The filters come in a variety of colours so it can please everyone.
5. You can see the water inside unlike the stainless steel water bottles.
6. Made in the USA (so nice to see that).

The not so good...
1. You have to purchase a new filter every 2 months (not such a big deal if you buy 6 in advance).
2. The bottle itself is a little flimsy and so I don't expect it to last too long.
3. You can't put juice, milk or any other liquid in it due to the carbon filter.
4. The sport cap itself is depressed and closed very easily which was quite frustrating for my 3 year old.
5. It's a bit harder to drink the water out because you have to really squeeze the water bottle to get a good flow.
6. The mouth of the bottle isn't large enough to fit ice cubes.

So there you have it. If I were on the creation team of the Bobble, which I'm not, I would make the following recommendations:

1. Provide a filterless cap in addition to the filtered cap so that the bottle may be filled with other liquids as well.
2. Make the cap more like a Sigg where you can twist it open and closed.
3. And my own personal preference would be to create a stainless steel version that would be more durable.

The Bobble is now sold at a variety of locations across North America. I found ours at the local Canadian Tire. My final recommendation is that if you find yourself in situations where you're having to drink out of fountains, bathroom taps, spray park water, or buying bottle water (such a waste of plastic) and you would prefer not to drink from these sources, I would encourage you to try the Bobble. If you've never had this issue before and don't foresee it in the near future, I would just stick with what you have.

That's it for now!

As a follow up we did find a fabulous stainless steel filtered water bottle from Water Geeks, a Canadian company. They are much more durable and you can remove the filter if you want so liquids other than water can be put in the bottles. 1. We got ours from wallgreens, they were on clearance for 10 dollars. It's very handy and I drink ALOT more water now, and carry it with me everywhere. My husband doesn't believe in water filters at home. Our last one fell apart, he also gets mad if I buy bottled water (I love aquafina!) But he was impressed with this buy!
    Thanks for your review!
